HOV Services Provides Course Conversion and Media Testing to Global Leader in Educational Publishing.
Challenge
A global leader in educational publishing, serving 100 million people world- wide and offering a comprehensive range of education programs for K-12, higher education and professionals was striving to improve costs and turnaround for their course conversion and media testing. In their previous process, the publishing company was working with two separate vendors to accomplish this, prices were high and they had very limited flexibility with the solution.

HOV Solution
HOV Services has strong seven-year relationship with this publishing company beginning with performing DocBook XML conversion. Through this relationship, HOV pursued the opportunity on course conversion and media testing services.

Course Testing: HOV Services began with media testing of online course products in Blackboard and WebCT. HOV staffed a knowledge expert at the client site to undergo training and develop the proof-of-concept. The publish- ing company signed-off on the training document and HOV ramped up the project offshore. Within just six months, HOV became the primary vendor for all online course testing in Blackboard, WebCT and a custom Learning Man- agement System (LMS) program used by the publishing company.

Course Conversion: Based on the testing phase, HOV Services pursued the course development/conversion opportunity. The same process as onsite testing was followed and the course conversion was ramped up within three weeks. HOV provided course conversion and testing as a combined solution to the publisher saving cost and time. HOV has a dedicated team for course conversion separate from testing team.

CD/DVD Media Testing: HOV recommended using an ISO/DMG/TOAST disc image process to transfer via FTP for testing instead of physically shipping them offshore wasting both time and money. HOV Services imple- mented a bug tracking system to record/track errors found in the media testing phase. The client accesses this bug tracking system via a web interface. All errors are then tracked and can be exported into Microsoft Excel for further analysis.
